How to use this template
Start with the take-home income you expect for one month. List the amounts you plan for essential costs, flexible spending, and savings. Add or rename rows to fit your situation. The blanks below are a structure to copy into your notes or the free calculator; this page does not collect or save your figures.
Subtract all planned amounts, including savings, from income. Treat what remains as a buffer or give it another purpose. If the result is below zero, revise the plan before relying on it. A monthly total also does not show whether a bill falls before payday, so check your due dates separately.
Your blank monthly plan
| Group | Category | Your plan | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Take-home income | — | €3,000.00 | |
| Essential | Housing | — | €1,100.00 |
| Essential | Utilities | — | €180.00 |
| Essential | Groceries | — | €400.00 |
| Essential | Transport | — | €220.00 |
| Flexible | Leisure | — | €350.00 |
| Flexible | Dining out | — | €150.00 |
| Savings | Emergency savings | — | €400.00 |
| Total planned | — | €2,800.00 | |
| Income minus plan | — | €200.00 | |
The right column is an illustration, not a recommended allocation. With €3,000.00 of income and €2,800.00 allocated, €200.00 remains. Your own categories and amounts may differ. If an annual bill is due soon, set aside a monthly portion while also planning for its actual payment date.
Adapt it to your month
- Replace the example income with your expected take-home amount. Use a cautious figure when income varies.
- Change the category names and amounts. Add debt payments, childcare, subscriptions, or other commitments that apply to you; remove rows that do not.
- Check that planned expenses plus savings do not exceed income. Keep room for costs you may have missed, then review the plan as actual spending becomes clear.
Use the monthly budget guide for a fuller explanation of the method. This template is a starting structure, not personalised financial advice.
Put your plan to work
The free calculator lets you edit income and category rows and immediately see the remaining amount. Values entered there are not transferred into a Spendly Budget account. If you create an account, enter your plan separately.
